When
the finishing application calls for close tolerance accuracy but
cost is a consideration, it is sometimes difficult to decide what
product provides the best solution. One way would be to use a cylindrical
lap, which will not only achieve the required close tolerance accuracy
required but they will also provide a cost effective solution.
Precision lapping is an abrasive machining process, which when
used in conjunction with a lapping tool provides a low pressure,
two motion (rotation and reciprocation) finishing process that will
result in a cost effective stock removal ranging from a few thousandths
of an inch to several millionths of an inch.
